The History of the Crisis Center Foundation in Jacksonville, IL

1984 - A group of citizens concerned about the rising number of women abused by their partners founded the Women's Crisis Center. Services were provided out of volunteers' homes.

1986 – The Illinois Domestic Violence Act was passed. The Center began providing legal advocacy services.

       

1994 – The Women's Crisis Center was incorporated as a 501(c) 3 on 3/5/1994. 

       

1997 – On 1/30/1997, the Center changed its official name to the Crisis Center Foundation. 

       

2000 – Secured funding to build a new building housing offices for walk-in services and a 14-bed emergency shelter.

       

2002 - The Center moved to its current location. 

       

2011 – Secured funding to assist clients leaving the shelter to pay for the deposit and first month's rent.

2019 – Expanded services for the underserved Hispanic population by adding a full-time bilingual, bicultural advocate and established office space in Beardstown, IL.

       

2023 – Expanded services to Greene County by having a legal advocate available two mornings per week to assist with filing orders of protection.

 

2023 – Expanded outreach services by opening a new office location in Jacksonville, IL, to promote community education and engagement on domestic violence.
